Placement Tariff

Thank you for agreeing to have our students with you on placement and for returning the placement agreement and audit.  There is a placement tariff which follows the students for their placements.  As a non-NHS organisation, you should be eligible for a payment from the Department for Health and Social Care.  The funds for this payment are passed to the University of Brighton once in the year.  This usually happens later in the year, usually in the Autumn term for which covers all placements which have happened in the previous academic year between July and June.  Please be reassured we will contact you to request an invoice for payment.

The placement tariff (changes annually and is set by the Chancellor in the budget ) is currently between £3- 4 per hour.  Note that the tariff is not guaranteed and is subject to government policy – but has been paid every year since 2013. There is more information on the placement tariff here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/healthcare-education-and-training-tariff-2024-to-2025

As an indicative amount, for a student with you on placement for 37.5 hours a week the payment per week would be about £145, assuming the tariff amount stays at a similar level to last academic year.

It is agreed with NHSE that we will pay tariff for any placement weeks that have been allocated to a student but the placement  had to conclude earlier than planned for whatever reason.

We are not able to pay tariff if a placement has not started (e.g. due to late notice cancellation by either party).

Please also note: Where Nursing students are on an international spoke experience as part of a placement block, the tariff will be paid to the international site who are supervising the learners during that time and not the UK organisation.
