LebensMittelPunkte among topics of the plenary assembly of Ernährungsrat Berlin

More than 50 people participated in the plenary assembly of the Ernährungsrat Berlin [Berlin Food Policy Council] which was held online on the 28th of October 2020. Whilst the planned election of the new board of representatives could not happen within this online format, there were many points to discuss.

Most importantly, the imminent action conference under the title 2030 ernährt sich Berlin klima- und sozial gerecht! [In 2030, Berlin feeds itself in a climate and socially just way!] was presented and discussed. The conference will take place online from 19-21 November. It aims to draw a vision: What will a climate- and socially just Berlin 2030 look like? What does it need? The action conference is intended to be the starting signal for the initiation and implementation of concrete projects by a wide range of citizens. In addition to ideas kitchens for the further development of the projects, a Science Slam, two panel discussions, space for exchange and networking as well as the Inspiration Kettle (open project stage) are planned. An overview of the programme and information on registration can be found on the conference website. Please do come along!

There were also news about the Ernährungsrat’s initiative to establish LebensMittelPunkte in all the neighbourhoods in Berlin. Karen Wohlert from Baumhaus Wedding reported from a LebensMittelPunkte workshop promoted recently by the food policy council in the Baumhaus project: ‘We are in the process of further developing the concept of LebensMittelPunkte using the example of the tree house and creating a handbook that will help other initiatives to establish and develop their initiatives’.

LebensMittelPunkte are thought as community hubs accessible to everyone and where everything revolves around climate-friendly food: production, distribution, preparation, eating, waste recycling. The idea for Berlin’s LebensMittelPunkte originates from the AG Stadt & Ernährung who is also the initiator of Berlin’s food policy council. Katrin is a founding member of the AG Stadt & Ernährung.
