Supporting best practice in BBS

Would you like help with any digital transformations? Or, why not try recording your lectures and marking with a rubric!

There are a number of ways that technology can help with giving students access to our teaching and learning resources and with our need to provide students with feedback.
After the recent, excellent Work In On Assessment, organized by Julie and Pete – I thought it might be helpful to remind colleagues that if there are “things you want to try out” – a number of us are happy and willing to show you how – this message might be especially useful to new colleagues, but is there for all.

So if you want to:
Capture your voice while giving a lecture – and make the combined Powerpoint & audio available (very nice for students who do not have English as their first language)
or,
Use a rubric to mark (maybe with audio comments)
or,
Mark on an iPad (loaned from the technicians)

Do feel free to pop in and ask for hands on help  from me:

  1. Thanks Asher

  2. Hi Asher,

I would like to experiment with recording a lecture in G8 (but it may not be until the next teaching year). Is there a set of simple instructions on how to record and save a lecture and if so where?

If I wanted to record a lecture in M116/117, how easy would this be?

    Steve

Hi Steve, there is advice on using the software Camtasia here, but it assumes you will do it away from the lecture theatre. For myself, I prefer to record the lecture I actually give, here are some notes on how to do so.
1, important prelude: accept it may not work, like much of the reality of digital transformation!
2, if you are in G8 make sure your mike is working
3, or if you are in 117/116 you need to take a flat mike from the technicians and plug it in before starting powerpoint
4, When you start Powerpoint, opt to ‘Record Slide Show’
5, when you end your lecture press the ‘submit’ option – this will prompt you to login.
6, from ‘profile’ I choose all formats and submit
7 later an email comes with a range of links which you can add as a link in Studentcentral.

Steve (or others) – please feel free to ask me to go through this face to face for your first try, if you want.
