Continuing students can start planning ahead around the 22/23 timetable

If you are continuing your studies in September 2022, you should by now have received an email advising you that you new academic timetable is ready to view.

Do take the time to check the timetable as you can use this opportunity to see how this may impact you childcare provision, commute time and any spare time for part time work opportunities.

Here are some helpful tips and links:

1. Southern Rail timetable and Unizone tickets. In order to get the Unizone ticket (weekly, monthly, quarterly/termly) you need a valid 16 – 25 Railcard (also available to mature full time students over 25 years!) and an NUS Totum card. The Unizone ticket can be used for unlimited peak and off-peak travel between Eastbourne and East Worthing and offers considerably reduced rail tickets after you have spent the initial outlay on Totum and 16 – 25 railcard. If you are a mature student over 25, you need to complete the additional mature student form for the 16 – 25 Railcard, which has to be stamped on campus.

With the increases to petrol prices and limited parking across all campuses, this may be an attractive option for many students.

2. Looking for part time work to fit in with studies next term?

The Careers Service has some excellent online resources which you can access to help smarten up the CV, get interview tips and look for vacancies across the region including more information about student ambassador work on campus which attracts a very good hourly rate of pay. You can also book an appointment to talk to a Careers Adviser about employment options to suit you. Advisers are available over the summer so you could invest some time now before services start getting busy after Clearing.

If you are already working part time or full time, have a chat with your employer now about your availability for work over term time and if that can’t work, you could also see if there are options for Christmas work instead (yes, it will be Christmas before we know it!)

3. If you haven’t already done you, you must apply for your funding for 22/23 as a matter of urgency. Standard applications typically take 4 – 6 weeks to process, but will take considerably longer after A level results are published next week. Please be aware that if you are repeating your first year in 22/23, you may not be able to access your full timetable until later this month due to Clearing activity for new first years.
