Primary BA trainees SBT3

27 Nov 2023 – 1 March 2024 (plus single introduction day 22 Nov 2023)

Trainees will have received a rich learning experience from their previous SBTs and the team in the School of Education. They will have studied and experienced the full breadth of the National Curriculum and the early years Foundation Stage as appropriate and will be prepared for the position that schools are adjusting to with their learners and wider communities.

This final phase of school-based training provides trainees with a sustained opportunity to draw together the range of their knowledge, skills and experiences on their programme and to demonstrate that they are fully prepared for their ongoing development as an Early Career Teacher

Trainees are expected to take on a 75% teaching timetable and demonstrate autonomy in leading learning for their allocated group or class. They will plan and assess using the school’s systems, ensure all other staff they are working with are effectively briefed and evaluate their impact on pupil progress and well-being in order to develop strategies to improve.

In the final week of SBT3 trainees will take responsibility for ‘giving something back’ to their training school. This is an opportunity for the trainee to ‘give something back’ to the school community for the help and support provided during their assessed school-based training whilst supporting the development of their early leadership skills and subject specialism and leaving a legacy to the school community. Schools in our partnership have benefitted from take home packs of maths and English games for disadvantaged learners, and a whole school outdoor adventurous activity scheme. Many trainees will work with a strand of the school improvement plan in negotiation with the school.
