Michelle Wallace
Michelle’s teaching career spans 27 years, teaching across the primary age range from Reception to Year 6. She has enjoyed being a class teacher in a wide variety of primary schools mostly in London but also in Manchester and more recently in Brighton and Hove.
During her class teaching in schools she has lead and worked in teams developing DT, Maths, Literacy and Art. Michelle has a passion for PE, dance and outdoor learning and she is a qualified gymnastics and athletics coach. Alongside her class teaching in London she also helped to develop the PE and dance curriculum in schools and has lead gymnastics training for class teachers.
Before taking on the role of University tutor, alongside her class teaching, Michelle also trained to become an accredited Sports Psychologist. She completed a Sports Science Masters and, as part of this, she obtained coaching qualifications and completed a counselling course. These valuable skills of coaching and counselling have helped her to become a more effective mentor, helping trainees to set and achieve their goals as well as being able to listen, and be empathetic to them.
Michelle also taught for three years at the British School in Rio de Janeiro as a class teacher and as a consultant to a large team of teachers in Key stage 1. Whilst there, she helped to develop Early Literacy skills across Key Stage 1 and worked to improve key initiatives such as language development through the environment and play. She also had the pleasure of mentoring several Brazilian trainee teachers within the school who have all since become very successful teachers!
