Maurice Waller

A photo of Maurice who has a short grey beardMaurice is a retired primary school headteacher. Since retiring he has continued to “keep his hand in” by taking on the role of University Tutor.

Before emigrating from South Africa in 1978 Maurice was a primary head for two years. However, on arriving in the UK he was required to retrain and after enrolling on the PGCE course at Sussex University he was eligible to teach in the state sector.

He spent two terms covering maternity leave in Newham before returning to East Sussex. After four years as Deputy Head at a large primary school he was appointed Headteacher of a small village school where he spent eleven enjoyable years before retiring.

During his stint as headteacher Maurice was determined to stay close to the ‘chalkface’ and ensured he maintained a teaching commitment as much as possible. He also spent his last two years of his headship fulfilling the role of SENCO at his school.

Maurice has thoroughly enjoyed working as a University Tutor for more than ten years. Having spent more than forty years in primary education he finds supporting the next generation of teachers in their quest for QTS an especially rewarding experience.
