Prior to teaching she worked for American Express but wanting to pursue her dream to become a teacher, she left to study for an English Literature degree and then completed a PGCE at the University of Brighton. Some years later, she completed an MA in Education Studies.

She has taught across the upper primary and secondary age phases. She worked for fourteen years within a special facility for Speech, Language and Communication within a mainstream secondary school. She led the Access provision which was smaller teaching groups based upon the primary education model. She returned to primary education as a deputy headteacher where she led the Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1.

She is currently a Primary Education Advisor for East Sussex Virtual School for Looked After Children and is an associate of Changing Chances which delivers positive behaviour training for schools, parents and other professionals working with children.
She is passionate about improving life chances for all children but especially those with special educational needs and disadvantaged children. She loves working with trainees to show them how they can empower themselves to be their best and in turn empower the children they teach.
