Jeannie Hughes
Jeannie Hughes BEd Hons
Jeannie has many years’ experience (almost 40 years!) as an infant and nursery teacher. She worked in London in a number of inner city primary schools always specialising in early years and key stage one; which she believes passionately is the best age range to teach! She became a lead teacher, worked for the local authority as an Early Years specialist and eventually became a Head Teacher of a large nursery school. This was followed by several years working as an Infant School Head Teacher in South London.
She moved to West Sussex to in 2006 to take on the heads role of an infant school which she loved. The school grew from a two to four form entry school over the thirteen years she was Head Teacher. The school was judged as outstanding and became a Teaching School which gave the school opportunities to work with others; providing support and expertise.
Jeannie has enjoyed providing training for teachers and schools across West Sussex on various aspects of Early Years and Key Stage One but especially on teaching literacy. She loves children’s books and thinks they are a fantastic starting point for teaching. She has contributed to several publications about teaching and learning and taken part in research which has ensured that she keeps developing and improving her knowledge and skills.
Over the years she has supported many teachers during their early careers right through to encouraging others to become school leaders. She is an experienced mentor and coach and hopes to share her enthusiasm and experience, for what she believes is the best job in the world!
