Ally Preece

A photo of Ally who has dark curly hair and glasses in front of shelves full of cds.Ally taught in Brighton and Hove primary schools for 25 years. Prior to that she worked in medical science but then succumbed to the inevitable (after a childhood of ‘playing’ and volunteering in schools) and completed a PGCE. She remembers very well the intensity of that year!

She has taught across the primary age phases from Reception to Year 6 and been leader of EYFS, Music, Science, Reading and Student Mentoring. She has also taught Early Years music for both Brighton and Hove and East Sussex Music services and been a governor at a successful nursery school.

Ally has recently engaged in training around and taught using the Talk for Writing, Maths No Problem and Sounds Write (SSP) strategies; she has particular interests in metacognition and its impact on pupils’ learning, AfL and behaviour management.

Alongside teaching in the classroom, Ally has also worked with University of Brighton trainees and NQTs for the past 8 years, across all the primary programmes.  She is passionate about developing the skills and confidence of new and trainee teachers. She leads the Primary UT and Intervention teams at the university, the latter involving supporting trainees with their classroom practice both on campus and within their school settings via reflective, practical and hands on strategies that empower them to make improvements in a supportive environment.
