Western media representations of the Venezuela revolution have been obsessively focused on the personality of the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The western media have demonstrated an inability to engage with the radical social changes that have been happening in Venezuela for a variety of reasons to do with their corporate base, neo- colonial perspectives, and geo-politics. Meanwhile within Venezuela, there is a determined effort to develop alternative media and engage in a cultural transformation that fits with a country undergoing change. We will show extracts from our film, Listen To Venezuela and discuss the issues raised.
