This paper examines the relationship between cultural memory and new digital technologies in contemporary Britain. Through a focus on the BBC ‘People’s War’ website, it will explore the extent to which the interactive nature of the internet is reshaping the dominant memory of the Second World War circulating today.

Dr Lucy Noakes is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Historical and Critical Studies. She is a historian who researches in the fields, of war, gender and memory, and her publications include War and the British: Gender and National Identity 1939-1991 and Women and the British Army: the Gentle Sex at War 1907-1948
