Humanities & Social Science Labs

The Humanities & Social Science Labs (HSS Labs) are located in Mithras House (Rooms 111 – 123). The Labs are here to support University of Brighton students and staff at all levels to carry out research and in incorporating Lab equipment and resources within teaching. We also run events, demonstrations and Lab tours for Research events, Open days, Applicant days & Summer schools.

The Lab spaces are run by the Senior Technicians within the school, who provide support with using the Lab spaces, Lab equipment and specialist research software. Our technicians are dedicated Psychology Technicians who provide support on our Psychology and Psychology joint honours courses. In the Lab we can help with:

  • Identifying the best Psychological measure/s to use.
  • Using specialist Psychological equipment
  • Using online survey building platforms (E.g. Qualtrics & Gorilla)
  • Setting up and running online surveys or experiments
  • Setting up and running interviews or focus groups
  • Participant recruitment
  • Transcription & Qualitative analysis
  • Using statistical analysis software, such as SPSS, Jamovi and R & RStudio
  • Data analysis – Psychology dissertation students, please make sure you have confirmed your analysis plan with your supervisor prior to meeting with the Lab.

Our Lab spaces contain a variety of research spaces, which can be used for conducting equipment based research, interviews and focus groups, events, workshops, seminars & training sessions. You can find out more about our Lab spaces on our Lab Spaces page.
