All are welcome to this event, jointly hosted by the Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories (Visual Culture, Memory and History strand) and the Centre for Design History.

This in-person event, introduced by Dr. Megha Rajguru, includes the screening of Barbara Loftus’ forensic documentary Across The Land and The Water: The Two Journeys of the Family Basch (2021, 60 minutes) about the lives of family members known to the artist only through photographs and letters.

After the screening, Barbara Loftus will be in conversation with Dr. Julia Winckler about the film and her latest book, The Distanced Observer, a two volume study of testimony, excavation and interpretation. This deeply personal work of performative post-memory is the product of 25 years researching the lost world of Barbara Loftus’ German-Jewish inheritance.

Followed by Q&A chaired by Prof Annebella Pollen.

Wine reception and refreshments provided.
