Brighton Law School raise money for legal organisations supporting the local community
On Wednesday 13 September, lecturers from Brighton Law School joined more than 100 members of the local legal community in taking part in the annual Brighton Legal Walk.
Jack Thompson, Kate Hunter, Isilay Taban, Laura Walker and Jo Smith walked 10km around Brighton with judges, lawyers and members of legal advice organisations to raise money to support local legal advice agencies.
Jo Smith, undergraduate law course leader, said: “We are really proud to have been able to contribute to helping support these vital local legal organisations, that provide invaluable legal advice and support for some of the most vulnerable in society.
“From the work we do in our own student-led University of Brighton Legal Clinic, we know how important free legal advice can be in a climate where many people cannot afford to pay for a lawyer. Being part of this event lets us show our support for all the fantastic work that local legal advice organisations provide.”
Setting out on a sunny afternoon, the route took the team through Kemptown, and then down to the seafront where they walked to Hove. Finishing at Hove Town Hall where they were congratulated by the local mayor, Brighton Law School team completed the walk in just under two hours, and managed to finish before the rain started!
