National Student Money Week – hydrate the mind, body and bank balance

This week the Student Advice Service is on tour across all campuses talking to students about how to avoid and manage money stress.
One way to a healthy mind, body and bank balance is by paying a little more attention to what you eat and drink, which isn’t easy on a tight budget.

We all know the benefits of keeping hydrated, but you don’t have to drink bottled water. Did you know that there are free water fountains across all University sites? You could save yourself £175 each academic year (£1 a day, 5 days a week, 35 weeks a year) by bringing in your own refillable bottle and using the fountains instead of buying a bottle a day.

As well as in the campus librraies, this is where you can find free water on your campus:
Grand Parade, City Campus: Cafe Bar ground floor; East wing ground floor; adjacent to toilets at main staircase 1st floor
Eastbourne: Hillbrow – Sprinters; Sport Centre changing rooms and main gym; Welkin Labs; Robert Dodd Reception; Greynore Restaurant; Aldro main entrance; Leaf Hospital Reception; Student Room on ground floor
Falmer: Mayfield House; Westlain restaurant: Checkland atrium (tucked in behind vending machines on level 3)
Moulsecoomb: Mithras restaurant, Cockcroft restaurant, Watts SILS
Hastings: Priory Square basement opposite lifts; 1st floor lounge; 3rd floor seating area. Havelock Road Student Lounge; 6th floor; Lacuna place 1st & 2nd floors

Ever felt sleepy after lunch, suddenly dizzy when you get home after a lecture or can’t sleep after a late night stint in the library? These are typical effects of a carb slump, sugar rush or drinking too much caffeine. By making slight adjustments to daily habits relating to eating and drinking, you will soon feel the benefits by feeling more energised and staying more focused.
