Tip 7 of the 12 (money saving) Tips of Christmas

We’re at the halfway point of 12 (money saving) Tips of Christmas, brought to you by the Student Advice Service.

So far we have avoided talking about buying stuff, but for the next couple of days (1 tip a day) we are going to share a couple of money saving spending tips.

You can use sites such as Quidco or TopCashback where you effectively get money back once you have made the purchase, as long as the shop or product is linked to these sites in the first place. The good point – it’s a discount, so it is money off. The bad point – you need to make the purchase up front, so you get a retrospective discount, hence ‘cashback‘ and it’s only worth it if you were going to buy that product or item anyway.

You may only get a small amount back, but it can add up and you keep your cashback payments in separate account and save for a rainy day or a nice treat.

Before you commit to signing up to any of these sites, check out the advice from Which?

Safe spending
