Student Advice Service – Money Matters

News from the Student Advice Service at the University of Brighton

Looking for somewhere to live in September? We can help

The (September) start of the academic year may feel like only yesterday and many first year students are still getting to grips with uni life and a new place to call home. However, before too soon the local letting agents and private landlords will be competing for your business for securing somewhere new to live this September and before you know it, you’ll be feeling the pressure to find your next home.

Before you start panicking, take a breath. You have plenty of time to find somewhere and first come doesn’t always mean best served!

Firstly, check in with the university’s very own Accommodation Service. You may not be aware that the university manages a number of shared houses in the local community, just like a private letting agent. The university lets houses on behalf of private landlords who don’t want to use a commercial agent, so you benefit, by not being charged high and hidden unnecessary fees in addition to the rent. We also check that all the health and safety certificates and requirements are up to date. There are a number of different places available, so check the most up to date online list of properties.

Finding your first independent place to live can be really daunting and overwhelming but we can help you with all your questions, however big or small.

The Student Advice Service is teaming up with the Accommodation Service on the Student Homes roadshow…..
