Student Advice Service – Money Matters

News from the Student Advice Service at the University of Brighton

Looking for advice over the holiday? The Student Advice doors are open

Whether you’re looking for advice on applying for next year’s funding, worrying about making ends meet this year or thinking about intermitting or taking time out, the Student Advice Service is open for business throughout the vacation.

Our opening times are slightly reduced, but there will be someone available to talk to – at the end of a phone, email and also in person, at all the sites over the next 3 weeks.

We know it’s a difficult time with academic pressures mounting, so if we can help alleviate some of the stress by helping with any money worries, it will be a call worth making.

The Tithe Barn (pictured above) is the hub of the service and is based at Moulsecoomb campus. The service here will be open for drop in between 10am – 1pm Monday to Friday (except the 2 Bank Holidays on  25th and 28th March) for the duration of the holidays, so you can just pop in if you’re staying local. Alternatively you can make an appointment with one of the Advisers in the afternoon on these same days.

Falmer, Grand Parade, Eastbourne and Hastings will also be open during the holiday, but do call 01273 642888 before you visit if you are coming in person. You don’t have to necessarily visit the Advice Service at your regular campus.

Here are our top 5 picks of Spring advice:

1. Continuing students apply now for your funding for next academic year. Applications for 2016/2017 are open, have a look at this link for more information and guidance: http://media.slc.co.uk/sfe/1617/ft/sfe_continuing_full-time_students_guide_1617_d.pdf

2. Got an expensive end of year show or project – perhaps you can get some extra help from the university’s hardship fund? Click here for more info.

3. Thinking ahead to postgraduate opportunities? You may not be aware that the Government has launched a new Postgraduate Loan scheme. Click here for more info.

4. Have you had a change in circumstances – academic, personal, financial? Come and talk to us about any possible financial impact.

5. Going away over the vacation and leaving an empty house? Take your valuables with you or lock them away and make sure your property is secure.

The best number to call is 01273 642888 or email studentadvice@brighton.ac.uk.

Best wishes
