National Student Money Week – unwind with a low cost adventure

Wash away the January blues and celebrate the days getting lighter with a fun day trip or outdoors adventure.
Living in Sussex offers so many fun opportunites which we can enjoy with family and friends and you don’t always have to fork out for a good time.
As we’re focusing on the relationship between money and mental health for the whole week, today’s blog is all about getting active in your local area. Spring is on our doorsteps and there are wonderful places to explore just around the corner so clearing your head and blowing the winter cobwebs away couldn’t be closer.
Sportbrighton is the dedicated Sport and Recreation arm of the university, passionate about team sports and physical wellbeing but also personal development. There are a wealth of opportunites out there for students as part of sportbrighton or the Students Union sport societies (list here) but if you just want to have a bit of recreational fun with your housemates, Parklife is a good place to start as this wing of sportbrighton offers cheap activities for only £1
If you’re feeling more adventurous and fancy venturing beyond the confines of the university, have a look at local parks and gardens – some of the larger ones like Stanmer many have walking routes which you can download for free and are really easy to get to either on foot, train or bus. Have a look here for more information. Brighton and Hove Bus company has also teamed up with the Brighton Rocks group who provide guided walks typically aimed at international students: https://www.brightonrocks-tours.com/buswalks
There are also guided walks which local councils promote, provided by organisations such as the Conservation Volunteers TCV in Eastbourne, Brighton and Hove City Council Healthwalks
https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/leisure-and-libraries/sports-and-activity/healthwalks-programme and Hastings and it’s surrounds or you can find your own routes here
Since 2012 the UK has embraced cycling with a passion, it’s almost become a national sport. Perhaps the Sussex roads aren’t quite Tour de France terrain just yet, but there are some safe routes you can enjoy a cycle on, and of course the seafront goes on and on and on…… There are plenty of places where you can buy cheap second hand bikes, but do make sure you get your bike regularly serviced and you stay safe and be seen on the roads afater dark. Have a look at Sustrans for some routes and safety tips
Whether it’s a gently stroll along the promenade, a cycle on the undercliff for a winter barbecue or an ultramarathon across the Downs, you’ll be rejuvenised with some fresh air.
Today is the last day of the roadshow, so don’t miss out on the Money Personality quiz, our ‘de-stress for less’ competition and all the goodies. Click here to find out where we are today
