Undergraduates can still apply for funding for 24/25

If you are worried about about the Student Finance reference to 21st June 2024 as a deadline to apply for funding for 24/25, please don’t worry – it is not too late to apply

Most students will be relying on some sort of funding to get them through their university course, and Student Finance set deadlines to try and ensure that both new and continuing students have their funding sorted in plenty of time for the start of the new academic year.

For the 2024/25 academic year, new students were encouraged to apply by 17 May, whilst continuing students had until 21 June. Although these dates have now passed, there’s no need to panic, you can still apply and avoid stressful delays at the start of term.

You actually have until 9 months after the start of the academic year to apply for funding, for most this will be the end of May. So, if you’re planning on self-funding your studies, remember you have until then to change your mind.

The easiest way to apply is online. New students will need to register an account with Student Finance, whereas continuing students can just log into their existing account.

Applications take roughly 6 weeks to be processed, as long as the forms have been completed correctly. If you’re under 25, Student Finance will generally ask for income details from your parent(s) as part of the assessment process – they will be prompted to complete a separate online application, which will be matched up with yours.

If you’re unsure about your plans for September, we still advise you to start the application process, as you can make changes to your course or university later down the line, or even cancel an application if you decide it isn’t the right time for you.
