Summer Fund for students facing financial hardship over the summer vacation

Each year the university offers financial support to students over the long summer holiday.  Applications are assessed on a case by case basis and if you are made an award, it is paid to you direct from the university and you do not have to pay it back.

Who can apply?

All full time, UK and EU students who are progressing on an undergraduate course in September  2024. You must be fully enrolled on a standard length course and not intermitting.

This is a limited fund and unfortunately we cannot guarantee awards for all applicants, so priority will be given to students in financial hardship who cannot work over the long summer vacation for one of the following reasons:

  • You have caring responsibilities – for a child, relative, partner or other adult
  • You have health issues or are a disabled student

If you do not fit into either category above, you may still apply but please tell us as much as you can about your situation in your cover letter.

Are there any exceptions?

  • All continuing students in receipt of a care leavers bursary or estranged students bursary will be contacted separately so do not need to apply.
  • Health Science students enrolled on a long course can still apply to the Student Support Fund until 28th June (note extended end date)

How to apply

In order to apply for the Summer Fund you need to complete a short application form and provide supporting evidence such as bank statements, rent or mortgage liability, DWP benefits (if applicable) and a covering letter fully explaining your reasons for applying. You must email your completed form and scanned evidence to the Funds team direct: funds@brighton.ac.uk

When to apply

Applications are now open. You need to submit your application and all supporting evidence before midnight on Friday 12th July 2024. We cannot consider any late applications.
