Countdown to the end of term – looking towards the next…
End of term is nearly here and many of you will be returning to family for the break, so we thought now is a good time to remind you of a few financial realities to bear in mind.
For most undergraduate students on September starting courses, the next instalment of maintenance loan should be paid to you on the 10th of January 22, so if you have any money left, please spend it really carefully so you can make it to the next payday.
If you max out your overdraft facility over Christmas, you could be in trouble in the year ahead.
The Spring term is a long one, and your next loan instalment will have to last from the 10th of January, until the start of the Summer term which is the 3rd of May. That is 16 weeks and is likely to involve 4 monthly rent payments.
Those students eligible to receive the University of Brighton bursary should expect a payment of half the bursary in January and the other half in May. However, the Spring term maintenance loan instalment has to go a really long way, so we would like you to engage in some active budgeting.
The Student Advice Service can help you to consider your current spending, and give advice about where you can make savings. You can ask to book a budgeting session on MS Teams with one of our Advisers – make sure you have your bank statements handy and are prepared to face your spending habits. Please give us a ring on 01273 642888 or email us: studentadvice@brighton.ac.uk to make an appointment. We are available until Wednesday 22nd December, so please contact us at any time.
We hope you enjoy your break, but ask you to remember how far your money has to go next term, and spend carefully.
Seasons wishes to you all
