Software Engineer student wins global prize for AI project that can predict injuries for elite athletes

A University of Brighton student has earned international recognition for creating a groundbreaking AI platform that accurately forecasts injuries in elite athletes, potentially transforming how professional football clubs manage player health and performance.

Abdulmalik Alshamari, a first-year Software Engineering student, developed Champions Hub, a web-based platform that uses open-access player data and a custom-built algorithm to predict injury risks with over 80% accuracy. The system analyses nine key metrics—including fatigue, workload, recovery, and training load—to detect early warning signs of injury.
