Validation of PG Certificate

Good news!

The PG Cert has been jointly validated by Brighton & Sussex Universities. The application process will therefore change very soon for those wanting to embark upon the PG Cert from April 1st onwards. For those of you who have already attended the modules and are waiting to submit work for assessment, you will have to apply online after this date which then provides access to student central and various study skills available to PG students.

Each of you will be emailed soon to explain the process in full, but if in doubt contact Andy Collins.

Bursaries are available for both simulation based modules (but not for MDM28).

For applicants wishing to study on the modules for CPD purposes then please use the single module application form (see hyperlink under courses).

One Day Workshops for all healthcare practitioners (CPD)

For busy clinicians who want to attend the one day workshops involving simulation related activities, the dates are:

  1. Using Simulated Patients in Healthcare Education:  Tuesday May 17th at the Falmer Campus (Room: Bevendean 103), University of Brighton.
  2. Peer Observation of Teaching Training: Thursday June 16th (Room TBC).

These events are funded through HEE (KSS) and are therefore free to applicants. Please contact Andy Collins for bookings ( ).

Good News!!

Health Education (KSS) have commissioned further places for simulation practitioners in healthcare on both of the Simulation Based Modules (‘Principles & Practice of Simulation in Clinical Practice’, & ‘Feedback and Debriefing in Simulation’) delivered at BSMS through the Sussex Simulation Hub.

In addition they have also commissioned 50 places on a series of  one day workshops from April 2016 onwards (dates and topics TBC).

Peer Observation of Teaching Workshop

The ‘Training for Peer Observation of Teaching‘ Workshop took place on the 8th December 2015 with practitioners from a variety of backgrounds attending.

Those attending provided qualitative and quantitative feedback; a selection of the former are shown below.

“Good opportunity to reflect on a personal level re what/why we do POT”

“The chosen videos were excellent – good opportunities to look at skills/barriers to peer review”

“Enjoyed this, though I’m not normally fond of role play. I gained a lot from discussion within our small group”

“Will be taking this back to our education team to freshen up our debriefing in simulation training”

Also shown below is a figure with the collated quantitative feedback scores, rated on a Likert Scale, for the sessions delivered during the day.

Principles and Practice of Simulation Module

The Principles and Practice of Simulation module was successfully delivered for the second time from 16th – 20th November.

Quantitative and qualitative feedback from the students was extremely positive, and represented a small improvement from the first delivery of the module in 2014. A figure showing the responses (scored on a Likert scale) is shown below, along with a quote from one of the students.

“Thank you [Wes] (and Jo) very much for the simulation course last week; it was great to meet such enthusiastic teachers and challenge my brain again. We also had a lovely group on the course which was very fortunate.”

Peer Observation of Teaching Workshop

Following the successful delivery of our previous workshops at the Sussex Simulation Hub, we’re now taking bookings for a third workshop on December 8th at Mayfield House, UoB, focusing on Peer Observation of Teaching in healthcare and healthcare education.

Spaces are filling up fast, so if interested, please contact Andrew Collins.

Limited funded spaces are currently available (usual price £130).
