The standard of digital printing facilities was highlighted by students as needing a little updating and expanding – in response we’ve invested in new digital equipment and created a specialised room for digital printing facilities.

Update of Graphics and Illustration studios and learning resources
A request was made by students to enhance the studio environment and digital learning resources – Graphics and Illustration staff and students together redesigned the studios incorporating new equipment and flexible learning areas. This was made possible by significant financial support from the Modern Spaces Programme.
Learning community
The School of Art would like students to feel a strong sense of belonging to its supportive, encouraging and curious learning community. We have developed a strong student voice on all committees and listen carefully to student opinions of how to improve their experience with us.
The learning community
Some of you believe more could be done to feel more part of a course and the learning community. To improve this, we will be arranging face-to-face events by course and subject, and have restructured electronic platforms. We believe you’ll experience greater course-specific support, which will invigorate your wider learning experience.
Academic support
We are strengthening the personal academic tutoring system to improve the support we are giving you throughout your course. Three times a year, personal academic tutorials will be scheduled for you at each level of study.
Class and timetable scheduling
You highlighted experience of poor scheduling of classes and confusing timetables – we are working with the timetabling team to improve the shape of your timetable. You have a personalised online schedule, with classes arranged to facilitate better student engagement.
Assessment expectations
We have introduced a new system to make sure assignment briefs are clear and provide sufficient detail so you understand what is expected of you. This includes explicit marking criteria in relation to learning outcomes.
Aspire lists
The School of Education has worked with colleagues in the Falmer library to create Aspire lists for all undergraduate modules for 2018/19. This allows students to access online books and resources for all modules.
Lectures cancelled
We’re strict about enforcing a zero-tolerance approach towards cancellation of lectures – any classes which have been postponed will be rescheduled. We’re committed to ensuring there’s as little disruption to studies as possible.
