Some international students said they wanted to improve the sense that they are part of a community. We’re developing several initiatives, including ice breakers in professional services, inductions to promote engagement. We want to provide a platform for international students to connect and make friends.

Student Support and Guidance Tutors

We’ll continue to promote Student Support and Guidance Tutors (SSGT) and use them to communicate international, mature and wellbeing support communities.
Marking criteria
You wanted marking criteria provided in advance – we are doing this for all modules to aid clarity around assessment.
Lanyards
You wanted University of Brighton lanyards, we’re providing course lanyards to allow you to identify peers around the University.
Learning facilities at Watts and Edward Street
We’ve improved learning spaces across two sites by refurbishing the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Edward Street building, and the 6th floor of the Watts building. New computer equipment has also been brought in.
Community
You’ve asked for a greater student community feel and opportunities to work with other students. To increase this, we’re arranging a number of social and academic events, field trips and workshop opportunities for students across all levels. We’re also appointing student ambassadors to work with us to support online and physical activities among our community.
Assessment criteria
You wanted better clarity on assessment criteria, and in response we’ll be offering more guidance through scheduled class discussions, exercises and increased information in module handbooks. We’re committed to making sure there’s a clear sense of what is expected from you to do well in assignments.
Online timetables
You found that the previous timetabling system was confusing – we have completely revitalised this across the university, with the introduction of personalised timetables for all students.
Placement locations
You wanted improved, advanced notification of placement locations to allow more time to work out logistics and financial arrangements. We’ll release this information earlier so you can arrange travel, accommodation etc.
