The Brighton Student Survey (BSS) launches this year on Monday 4 February. Click the tabs below to find out more about the survey.
If you are a ‘new entrant’ this year you will be asked about aspects of your student experience so far at Brighton. This will include questions related to:
- Student support services
- Sporting opportunities
- Social opportunities
- Accommodation
- Hospitality
- Libraries
- Hit the Ground Running
If you are not in your first year of study, or a final year, then the BSS asks you the same questions as those in the National Student Survey (the national survey for all final year undergraduates). It asks about:
- Teaching on my course
- Learning opportunities
- Assessment and feedback
- Academic support
- Organisation and Management
- Learning resources
- Learning community
- Student voice
- Students’ Union
- Overall satisfaction
You can also provide your own comments on any positive and negative aspects of your experience at the University.
Your feedback is really important to us. The answers you give provide valuable insights into your experience as a student and highlight areas of excellence, as well as areas where improvements are needed. This is your chance to have your say. See the Your Voice Matters blog for examples as to how the University has responded to feedback from students from this and other recent student surveys.
You will receive email invitations to complete the survey from the University of Brighton to your University email account. These emails contain your unique link to the survey, please click on the link to access the survey. Alternatively you can click on the BSS banner which you should see when you log in to studentcentral and complete the survey that way. NB if you use this method, you will need to type in your University username and your date of birth as your password, in the form XX/XX/XXXX. Once you have completed the survey we will remove you from the reminder list and the BSS banner on your studentcentral page will disappear.
No, participation in the Brighton Student Survey is voluntary. However we really value your feedback so we would encourage you to complete the survey and share your views with us.
The main reason you can’t access the BSS is probably because you are not eligible. There are a number of reasons why you may not be eligible. Please check with your course leader or email studentsurveys@brighton.ac.uk
The results of the survey will be used in your School and by the University to help identify what is going well and also, more importantly, where improvements need to be made to enhance the student experience. All responses are confidential and anonymised to ensure individuals cannot be identified. Some aggregated quantitative results and some anonymised free text comments, may also be used in promotional or marketing materials or in other reports about the University, for example our submission for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The TEF is a new scheme that aims to recognise and reward excellence in teaching, learning and outcomes and to help inform prospective student choice.
If you have a question about the BSS that has not been answered in these FAQs then please feel free to email us at studentsurveys@brighton.ac.uk.
