Maureen’s Journey: How our Help to Grow course helped Marketing MSc student secure a full-time role

In this blog post, we’ll be exploring Maureen Imiegha’s story, a graduate of the University of Brighton’s Marketing MSc (Branding and Communications) course, who secured a role with Silicon Brighton – a community-led initiative supporting digital growth in the South East. The School of Business and Law work very closely with Silicon Brighton for guest lectures/talks and as part of the Help to Grow course.

Help to Grow: Creating opportunities for our students

Silicon Brighton reached out to our Help to Grow Director, Adam Jones, asking to promote an upcoming role to students at the School of Business and Law. The opportunity was shared across the school, and Marketing MSc (Branding & Communications) student Maureen was successful in her application and has joined the Silicon Brighton team. We met Maureen earlier in the year to see how her time at the University of Brighton has equipped her for working life.

The Brighton Difference: Real, applicable skills

Reflecting on her time at the University of Brighton, Maureen credits the School of Business and Law for equipping her with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s competitive market. The interactive nature of her classes and the collaborative assignments enriched her learning experience and prepared her for the realities of the working world. Maureen explained, “I loved and enjoyed how interactive [my course] was. I also loved the opportunity of working in groups with other students, this certainly prepped me for working in my current team.”

Inclusive Practice at the University of Brighton

When reflecting on how her degree prepared her for her new job, Maureen explained that she now “thinks strategically with marketing plans”, ensuring that her “strategies are inclusive and accessible to all”. Here at the School of Business and Law inclusivity is embedded into every course, and our inclusive practice enables individual students to feel they belong both at the School of Business and Law and the wider university, allowing all our students to develop and flourish academically, professionally and personally.

What is life like as a Marketing & Communications team member at Silicon Brighton?

Maureen’s role at Silicon Brighton is varied, but generally, she handles the following tasks in her role:
