Business of Technology Scholarship applications now open

As digital technology continues to thrive and develop, its growing impact on all aspects of business is driving change in organisations everywhere. From robotics to virtual reality, artificial intelligence to the Internet of Things, the pace and scope of digital disruption in the modern world is accelerating fast. Undergraduate students within the School of Business and Law entering their third year of study in October 2024 at the University of Brighton are eligible to apply for one of two £3,000 scholarships.


What is the Business of Technology Scholarship?

This scholarship is supported by Stephen Garden.

The objectives of the scholarship programme are to:

  • encourage students to think big and explore the business of technology 
  • focus on the business of technology, over aspects of technology such as coding 
  • encourage students to consider starting technology ventures to help the UK become more of a global tech leader.

Is this scholarship for you?

You need to be an undergraduate student studying within the School of Business and Law. You need to be entering your third year of study in October 2024 at the University of Brighton. See the full terms and conditions.

What does it provide?

£3,000 in your 3rd year of study.

How many scholarships are available?

Two scholarships are available in 2024–25 academic year.

When and how can I apply?

Applicants will be asked to consider what technology innovation they would like to develop and why. Applications can be submitted as a written statement, a presentation or a video.

Applications are now open and will close at midnight on 20 May 2024. Applicants will need to complete an online application. If you need any support in completing your application, please contact your Personal Academic Tutor or Student Support and Guidance Tutors. 

What can I spend the Business of Technology Scholarship on?

You are free to spend the funds on what you need to succeed in your studies at university. This could include (but is not limited to) resources and research costs, travel and/or living expenses. The funding can also be used to subsidise your living costs. This is to help alleviate financial pressures and support your work/life balance, to enable you to focus on your studies.

When will the funds be available?

The panel will inform students on the outcome of their application in June 2024. If you are successful, you will receive funds in 2 instalments of £1,500 each. The first payment will be made once the Funding Acceptance Form is completed. The second instalment will be made on or shortly after 31 October in your final year of study. Only when a recipient’s unconditional progression into Level 6 has been confirmed will the second instalment be made.

Who is Stephen Garden?

Stephen Garden graduated from the University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) Business Studies in 2007. He went on to become an entrepreneur, Tech Investor and Executive Chairman of Caylent Inc, a tech services company designed to bring the power of cloud technology to the masses. Stephen was the founder and CEO of Onica, one of Amazon Web Services largest consulting partners. He is passionate about supporting tech start-ups and helping fellow entrepreneurs.
