Brighton business students gain hands-on experience with local companies
We make sure that all our business students have opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, gaining real-world experience by working directly with businesses. One example is our final-year module, Developing Professional Practice in Business, where students collaborate with local companies to tackle their real business challenges.
This week marked an exciting milestone for our students as they met with their clients for the first time. The session was designed for the students to be able to learn about the businesses and uncover the unique needs of each one.
One of the businesses involved is ACE Corporate Fitness, founded by Helen Charnock. Helen’s journey is a powerful example of resilience – after being diagnosed with a brain tumour and undergoing surgery, she lost her ability to move. Through dedication to fitness and wellness programmes, she not only regained mobility but now thrives in activities like running and climbing.
She is now working to collaborate with the NHS to support others facing similar challenges. Her story resonated deeply with students and the opportunity to engage with Helen was both moving and motivating.
Another client was Mason Progressive Cycles, a company founded by an entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in the cycling industry. Their bikes, manufactured in Italy using distinctive materials and designs, captured students’ interest and there was a lot of excitement about working on their unique business model.
Over the coming months, our students will continue to meet with their clients on a weekly basis, developing recommendations and actionable marketing plans which they’ll present to their clients in May.
One of our students was even offered a part-time job during their first meeting with the client which is a fantastic opportunity for them to gain real-world experience and grow their network leading up to graduation!
