Student discounts and benefits for travel in Eastbourne

The University of Brighton works to support students, staff and visitors to travel as sustainably as possible to and from campus; to help cut carbon emissions and pollution, improve health and wellbeing and you could save yourself some money!

With the new academic year just around the corner, now is a good time to assess your travel options and kick-start good habits for the year ahead.

We particularly encourage active travel such as walking and cycling, as well as the use of public transport, car-sharing and avoiding the need to travel by using online meetings or conference calls where practical.

Check out the facilities available and info on your travel options:

Walking

All university campuses are located within walking distance of town centres and of train stations. For Eastbourne it takes 20 to 30 minutes to walk between the campus and the station.

Visit the c-change webpages for more information and other campus walking times

Cycling

The university actively supports cycling, and facilities are available at all campuses and halls of residence. This includes bike share bikes, bike storage, showers, pumps and repair kits. Check out the interactive map of facilities and lots of other information about travelling by bike on our c-change webpages.

Free bike maintenance checks are provided throughout the year. Follow c-change on social media to keep up to date with where and when! You can also take advantage of free ‘FIX IT’ bike maintenance classes for students from Evans Cycles. Email Christian Bolton to reserve a place on a session.

Trains

Southern Train for Unizone travel

Southern Railway connects the university campuses along one train line, serving the Brighton campuses (Brighton, Moulsecoomb and Falmer stations) and Eastbourne.

Get 1/3 off train tickets by investing in a 16-25 Railcard: £30 a year, and get 5% off with a TOTUM card (formerly NUS extra/ISIC card), or £70 for 3-years. Available to anyone aged 16-25, or over 25 and in full time study. Visit www.16-25railcard.co.uk for rail discounts.

The discounted Unizone train ticket is also available to students travelling anywhere between East Worthing and Eastbourne, covering the Brighton and Eastbourne campuses. Tickets cost from around £20 a week and are available to students with student ID and a 16-25 railcard, in weekly, monthly or quarterly tickets. Buy from staffed ticket offices in the Unizone area.

Car sharing – travel smart

If you need to travel by car, cut costs and reduce carbon emissions by car-sharing. Find a car-share partner though the university’s car-sharing platform, Travel Smart, a third-party service operated by Liftshare.
