General Election 2017

On Thursday 8 June, people all over the UK will be voting in the General Election.

We’ve put together some information you may need for voting on the day.

Polling stations

Your local polling station is listed on your polling card that will have been to delivered to you ahead of the election. If you don’t have your polling card, you can check your polling station with your local Electoral Office.

Polling stations will be open from 7am – 10pm, so there is plenty of time to get there around your work or study commitments – but check the time stated on your polling card to be sure.

Don’t have your polling card?

As long as you know you have registered to vote, you do not need your polling card to be able to vote in the General Election. Your name and address will be checked against a list on the day.

If you are unsure, you can contact your local Electoral Office to check you are on the electoral roll.

Filling in your ballot paper

You will need to give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station when you arrive to receive your ballot paper. This contains a list of the candidates or parties you can vote for.

Take your ballot paper into a polling booth, to ensure your vote cannot be seen. Instructions for filling in your paper will be provided within the booth, and are also usually on the ballot slip.

Fold the ballot paper in half as instructed and place it into the ballot box.
