Congratulations to Architecture BA(Hons) students Armen Etemadrad and Jamie Singleton, two brilliant Brighton students who have been awarded a Sussex Heritage Trust bursary for the Oak Timber Framing: Wall Framing course. Find out more about Armen’s studies at Brighton and what the bursary means to him. You can find out more about Jamie here.
I chose Brighton because of it’s architecture school facilities and experienced staff.
I have enjoyed using the workshops to create different types of models with various techniques. I have also enjoyed working with different people in the studio to push events and create fun little experiences throughout our year. Model making and sketching ideas are by far the most enjoyable activities I have done.
You also have photography rooms with different colour backgrounds, big open spaces and sectioned studios, a workshop with different tools and equipment, laser cutters, 3d printers and the student-independent-run shop called the Kiosk.
Within our studio groups and in the studio as a whole there is a great sense of community and collaboration because everyone is in the same shoes trying to figure out everything and discuss their ideas and just to have fun.
The tutors and the technicians are always very helpful and they always want you to go beyond and try different things from modelling with card to sketching perspectives. The support in Brighton is great, you get support for your course, you get support in your essay writing and mental wellbeing.
I wanted to apply for this bursary in order to learn more about using reusable materials and implementing more timber structures into my designs. This bursary is a perfect opportunity to gain experience in building 1:1 models which I find imperative when understanding sketches.
My time at Brighton uni has been amazing. Despite the intensity of my course I’ve gained so much knowledge and enjoyed every minute of it. If you want a RIBA certified course, love architecture, love the seafront then Brighton is the place for you.
