Visual Storytelling

Photography ability to convey complex themes and ideas through a single frame I find truly fascinating. Although meaning can be warped depending on audience but having a comprehensive vision of what you want to convey to the audience is important. While a photographer must be aware that individual response will always differ but use their aesthetic tools to guide the viewer towards their intended meaning.

This is especially effective when dealing with portraits. Using your human subject expression and body language to affect your viewers is key to conveying an emotional identity. The way you frame and compose your image is as important in shaping this meaning. A good portrait influencing how the audience perceives the subject and guides their attention towards what is crucial in the image.

Displaying vulnerability is one of the best assets of a photographer. I want to try and capture this authenticity and emotion in my portraits as well and use my subjects as well as outside factors to bring forward these human reactions. These portraits have inspired me to deeply inspect everything within my frame and its overall purpose in the image.

This can also carry over to shooting images and situations. In this case, you can also relay some emotional information through once again the use of light, shape and information you can see through the composition of items. This image is from a collection of American car interiors which works aesthetically in portraying aspects of American culture. Each item included within the frame works within the overall motif and fits the conceptual model of representations that this image constructs.
