Spring into action: ways to get involved with life at university and beyond

Now that Spring is in sight and the weather getting (a little bit) better, it is the perfect time to stop hibernating, and reboot your social life. We have put together some top tips for getting involved in life at university and beyond which won’t leave you out of pocket, and which might even make you money!

Take the Brighton Students Union societies quiz

With over 100 different student societies it can be hard to narrow down which you want to join.  Don’t worry, BSU has got your back. Take their interactive quiz now to match your personality and interests to the best societies for you. Membership fees are £4 per society and can be purchased online.

Get Parklife in your life

Want to be more active, but don’t have the time to commit to a regular weekly exercise session? Then Parklife could be the programme for you. With prices starring at £1, the programme is packed with activities across all campuses including archery, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, volleyball, and more. You can either book in advance or just turn up on the day.

Give it a go

Another fab way to try new things without making a regular commitment is the Give it a Go programme from Brighton Students Union. They offer a range of one-off activities free of charge. Some examples from this month are tenpin bowling, sailing, laser tag, climbing, and go karting.

Make friends and make money

Working part-time is about more than just earning extra money, it can also be a way to make friends and meet people outside of university life. If English is not your first language it is also an excellent opportunity to practice speaking and listening and expand your vocabulary. Give back, get back

Volunteering is an excellent way of building your existing skills and gaining new ones by giving your time to a charity or community organisation for free. It is also another great opportunity to meet people and make new friends. Search for volunteering roles on the Careers Connect website, then register with the university’s volunteering service, Active Student, to meet one of their team to discuss your options.
