Tii News: April 2014

April 2014

Issues
  • Service disruption reported on the 22nd April. Service was resumed just before 4pm. You can follow latest updates on Twitter @TurnitinStatus
  • There have been reports that, in the Assignment Inbox, when a student’s paper is selected with the intention of moving it to a different folder (eg Viewed, Marked or All Papers), the warning message that appears relates to deleting papers and if you proceed, the paper is in fact deleted, not moved.

  •  At the time of writing (14/4/14), Turnitin have not resolved this issue but are aiming for a fix by the end of April.
    • Workaround:
      • Do not use the Move To button until further notice
      • If necessary, Turnitin Support can move papers when requested
  • Google Drive: A while ago, Turnitin introduced the facility for students to submit their work from Google Drive.  Recently, this facility has caused intermittent problems. The issue lies with Google who are working on a fix.  In the meantime, until the problem is properly resolved,  it is best to advise students not to submit files from their Google Drive.

I have been working in the Educational Technology field within Higher Education for eleven years. A big part of my job is finding new and innovative ways of integrating technology into current teaching and learning methodology. This can include assisting academic staff with Virtual Learning Environments/Learning Management Systems (Blackboard), implementing specific software packages, maximising current technologies and championing new ones. I find this profession both riveting and rewarding. I really enjoy life on the cutting edge, but I also enjoy being able to help staff achieve small and meaningful efficiencies; sometimes that makes all the difference.
