University of Brighton at Pride Parade

Brighton Pride needs you: a call for volunteers

June marks international Pride month, where members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies worldwide celebrate their identities, recognise the influence LGBTQ+ people have had and continue to have, and reflect on the struggle for equality.

In Brighton, Pride celebrations will be taking place between 5-7 August, and the showcase Pride Parade will take place on Saturday 6 August, with a theme of Love, Protest & Unity. This year is especially important because we will be celebrating Pride 50 – the anniversary of the first Pride event in the UK, which was held in London in 1972.

The university would love to have a presence in the parade again this year, signaling to staff, and current and potential students that we are an institution committed to protecting and progressing the rights of our LGBTQ+ community. To do this, we need you! We are calling all staff and students who are LGBTQ+ or allies to register their interest in participating in the parade. We also welcome your families in joining us in the parade! As well as participating in a fun, positive event, if the university is successful in securing a presence, volunteers will have the opportunity to be entered into a draw for discounted tickets to We Are Fabulouso in Preston Park.

If you are interested in participating please complete this form and don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Equality & Diversity team if you would like more information or to discuss this further.
