Get financial support this summer – fund opening soon to continuing undergraduates

Each year the university offers financial support to students over the long summer holiday. We call this the Summer Fund. Like the Student Support Fund, this is a non-repayable award and applications are assessed on a case by case basis.

Who can apply

All full-time, continuing, undergraduate students fully enrolled on a standard-length course (i.e. courses which have less than 45 weeks academic term time) who are living in the UK throughout July and August and in financially difficulty.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee awards for all applicants, so priority will be given to students who are unable to work and/or who fulfil the following criteria:

  • have caring responsibilities – for a child, relative, partner or other adult
  • have health issues or are a disabled student
  • have no family contact
  • have overlapping tenancies/rent liability

You can still apply for this fund if you have already received the Student Support Fund during the academic year.

Important caveat for Health Science students enrolled on long courses

Health Science students including Apprentices (both February and September cohorts) enrolled on long courses more than 45 weeks in duration are not eligible for the Summer Fund, but may still be able to apply to the Student Support Fund until Friday 8 July. Please contact funds@brighton.ac.uk for more information and please provide your student number.

How to apply

There is a short application form to complete and you need to provide supporting evidence such as bank statements, rent or mortgage liability, DWP benefits and a covering letter fully explaining your reasons for applying. Please contact our Funds team for an application form and further information. You can email your completed form and scanned evidence back to the Funds team direct: funds@brighton.ac.uk

When to apply

There is only a limited application window of 3 weeks – the fund opens on Monday 13 June 2022 and you need to submit your application and all supporting evidence before midnight on Friday 8 July 2022 but we do ask you to submit the form in plenty of time.

All successful applicants will receive an email confirming their award on or before 22 July. All successful applicants will receive a payment direct into their bank account on or before Thursday 28 July.

Other important information

Please allow up to 14 days for a decision. We will notify you of the outcome of your application using your uni email address.

All successful payments will be made by the end of July and there is no right appeal for any unsuccessful applications.

Our year-round funds will reopen in the Autumn and we’ll send out more information about that nearer the time.

If you have got any other questions about your funding, student finance or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact us: studentadvice@brighton.ac.uk.
