My favourite Halal restaurants
The city of Brighton is known for many things; its annual pride, the colourful graffiti and the wide array of people from different cultures that live here. As a Muslim from London, coming to Brighton I thought that I would miss eating out because there was not a lot of Halal food places being advertised. I was pleasantly mistaken to see that halal takeaway were expanding to Brighton and that there are different varieties that people can enjoy.
The restaurants listed below are some of the few places I have tried over the course of my university degree course in no particular order:
1. Binta’s Kitchen
Binta’s Kitchen has authentic African food that reminds me of home. It is very affordable and has a lot of options which is great. I love getting my jollof rice and chicken from there.
2. Simit Palace
This is a great bakery, which also serves great tasting sandwiches, cakes and other bakery items. My favourite item on their menu is their baklava which is something I had never had before trying it here.
3. Roosters Piri Piri
I got recommended this place from a colleague at work and loved it from the first bite. I love ordering anything lamb from there from the lamb wrap to the lamb burger. I love it all.
4. Gourmet Burger Kitchen*
There aren’t many chicken options at GBK but their sides are what makes me come back all the time. Their chunky skin on fries and halloumi bites are so delicious.
5. Kokoro
My favourite things to get from here is the chicken gyoza and the chicken katsu curry. They have very big portions and I am barely able to finish a large meal on my own so it is definitely worth the money.
6. Frandzo
I love to order beef burgers from here. They are cheap and open later than most stores – which is helpful for late night study sessions.
7. AA Charcoal Grill
I love getting kebabs and mixed Kofte from this shop.
8. Pizza Express*
Pizza Express is on the more expensive side, but their pizza’s are amazing. My favourite order is Pollo Ad Astra with the classic dough balls and garlic butter.
9. Las Iguanas*
I love going here when I want some earthy Brazilian food. Having a Brazilian restaurant that also serves halal food is a great addition to Brighton.
These nine restaurants all come at diverse price points. They have a range of options on their menu including vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options. A lot of these restaurants open late for deliveries, so if you are studying in Brighton why not give your kitchen a rest and try these out sometime.
*At these restaurants the chicken is the only thing that is halal.
