Over 1500 visitors came to see graduates from our Sustainable Design MA and Product Design with Professional Experience BSc (Hons) courses showcase their projects in the Design District on the Greenwich peninsula opposite the O2.
The world’s leading design festival
This year was the 20th anniversary of the London Design Festival and University of Brighton were invited by Design District to exhibit as official LDF partners and the graduates benefited from being able to showcase their work nearby the prestigious Design London trade show.
Future facing products with purpose
Product Design graduates presented an exhibition of future facing design projects exploring materials and methods addressing environmental and social challenges. Exhibitors included graduates from 2022 and 2020-21 who missed out on the opportunity for physical shows due to the pandemic.
As well as showing visitors their projects students had the opportunity to attend talks and have the time to visit other areas of the exhibition themselves. Product Design graduate Alex Witty said it was “so rewarding talking to what has felt like thousands of sneakerheads, motorsport fans and environmentally conscious individuals about Compound Footwear and our ambitious plans for the future as we convert waste tyres and fashion offcuts into recycled, fashionable footwear. I had the opportunity to meet some incredible people as well as some of my design inspirations whilst also attending truly fascinating talks”
Design Research on show
Our postgraduate Sustainable Design Masters showcased design research produced on their programme alongside artefacts and probes. They encouraged more conversations with the visiting design community about the value of design research in understanding the complex and urgent issues faced by people and the planet locally and globally.
Student designed exhibition
Our exhibition space was designed and built by a student team in collaboration with the Product Design staff using 3D printed joints developed by Product Design graduate James Cann for his final year project. It is designed to be disassembled multiple times (and has already been used in seven exhibitions this year!)
