This week I have entered my Primary Research Phase where I have been developing basic ideas by using techniques such as Mind Maps and Research on the Brothers Grimm Version and the Disney Fairy tale. I have been brain storming ideas that I could use and how I could portray them, picking out elements and using them in contrast with modern day issues and Social Media. I have chosen Social Media as my Modern element as I felt like there was more links that I could creatively explore.

After researching and reading the original Brothers Grimm version (1812) , I learned that it’s a similar storyline, just more evil and malicious compared to the fairy tale. Issues like Snow White’s age, Jealousy, abnormal behaviour, “Beauty is Pain”, Public Humiliation and also the more malicious acts to murder Snow White where the main areas that stood out to me, and I begun developing on ideas to exaggerate and modernise it. I linked these elements to modern day issues like Jealousy, Beauty standards and the extents people go, how social media encourages children to mature quicker which can put them at risk, Comparison, Aggressive outcomes, Social media contributing to abnormal behaviours and trends and finally identity.

Towards the end of this week I’ve started research on Artists inspired by Disney like Oliver Beer. I will continue researching and developing throughout the majority of next week.
