Grand Parade Fire Evacuation Procedure

For University emergencies ring 2222 internally or 01273 642222 from any other telephone. Give location and description of emergency and a first aider will be sent.


Department Specific Guidelines

  • Always inform a member of staff before commencing work anywhere in the Photo Unit and sign in on the white board as well if using the darkroom enlargers
  • Never bring any photographic or other chemicals into the Photo Unit without checking with staff that an appropriate COSHH Risk Assessment has been completed and a copy is included in our records

DARKROOMS

  • Students may not use the darkrooms without first having an induction by a member of staff
  • No food or drink in the darkrooms
  • The darkrooms are obviously very dark, please allow your eyes to adjust before moving around and communicate clearly with your colleagues as to your whereabouts

FILM SCANNERS

  • Adjust your chair and screen comfortably at the start of your session
  • Take regular breaks from the screen – i.e. re-focus your eyes in the distance
  • Take regular breaks from sitting
  • No food or drink in the area
  • Do not change any settings on the computers
  • Do not download any software to the computers
  • Always  save your work when you have finished your session and  log off and switch off the computer before you leave.

STUDIOS

  • Students may not use the studios or the studio equipment without first having an induction by a member of staff
  • No food or drink is allowed in the studios
  • Always let a Technical Demonstrator know exactly what work you intend to carry out so the appropriate safety measures can be put in place including the provision of any necessary Risk Assessments

EQUIPMENT

  • Students should not use any equipment they have not first been shown how to use
  • If something is not working or a piece of equipment appears to be damaged, please see a member of staff as soon as possible
  • Never force something on a piece of equipment
  • See specific guidelines and your responsibilities when loaning either equipment or facilities.
