Grass

Freshly cut grass on a spring Sunday afternoon
Bagged up and thrown into a cavern
Seven miles west of the cacti garden
Walking away on the broken bridge
Like a pillow’s down
The anger of a tow-truck shunting through a tunnel
Poppy seed cakes and gingerbread men
Bitten nails scatter across a park bench
Coins spinning in a water fountain
Bitter bricks red-painted gates
Drive along an abandoned pathway
Dog-walkers cough and kick up turf
The college bells knell
Backpacks slump over arched bumps
Bottles roll into the gutter
Clouds eat into the blue
Window panes creek
An acorn falls beside a pug
Tales in teleportality
Branches breaching the heavenly line
Meows echo across the tundra
Remote controls propped vertically
White picket fences for the digital age
Wires knitted into a hat
Screens become a shield
The car boot sale packs down in the field
Odd toys with big eyes
Old soap with ribbon ties
Varnished and tarnished
Avocado toast garnish
Joy jumping into the jetty
Kissing while doing laundry
Hanging up polo shirts with stiff labels
Rats in suit pockets shuffling en route to the train station
Groans from doorways and squeaky taps
Medicine cases and leather-bound books
Faux fur coats in the style of a spice girl
Berets bobbing along to the stereo
Teeth shining and braids swinging
At the corner of the main road and roundabout
Encyclopedic knowledge of revolution
Birthday in a thermal vest
Spew churning from a lectern
A small fortune in tuition fees
Standing on dandelions reduces pollen for bees
Crowns of daisies twisted in hair
Pulling teeth and plucked leaf
Eyelash lingerie on a washing line
Time after time
Cultured pearls on freshwater hems
Deers sipping on chamomile
Forests reaching for the edges of the frames
Hugging the coast
Harbouring refuge
Team players running through restaurants
Switching off lampshades near midnight
The fork of the bicycle lane overgrown in the city
Touring the towns and folk dance festival
Reuniting with friends
Over stream-of-conscious poetry
