Group Project: Reflective Blog

This blog post is to provide an individual reflection on a group project. The assignment was for our IT282 – Digital Marketing Module where we were asked to produce a 30-minute presentation acting as a digital marketing agency creating a campaign. Our chosen organization was Nike.

We began by discussing potential business’s and eventually decided we’d pick Nike which already has a major digital marketing scope, so we’d be able to find lots of information, as well as, identify the weaknesses.  The agreement we reached was fast and harmonious. This was positive so that we could progress onto further parts of the project.

Consecutively, we planned how to execute the assignment. To do this we had to organize a meeting. Finding a time that suited everyone was a slight challenge due to different timetables, but we were all keen to commence the assignment. This was a good opportunity to develop our scheduling skills.

The following step in our process was the meeting, we decided to re-read the assignment brief together so we were all at the same level of understanding. Successively, we went through the list of requirements together and allocated the different tasks. At this step, it was necessary to use our team collaboration and decision-making skills. This was a good occasion to listen to each other so that we could identify each other strengths and weaknesses.

During the meeting, we also decided that we needed to establish a team communication platform. For this need, we chose to use the university resource on Microsoft office which allows students to create a virtual workspace. This would enable us to communicate online, as well as share the files with information which we would eventually include in the final presentations. This showed creative thinking and responsibility skills.

At this point, the involvement decreased because we were not communicating as much but we had to have trust in each other’s reliability. As the deadline approached, I struggled with time-management due to my other commitments. I needed to establish a good balance for myself so that I could deliver quality work. Meanwhile, some of the other group members were far ahead and actively communicating on our virtual workspace.  Regardless, we all managed to put our sperate parts onto the presentation which looked consistent and equally as in-depth researched.

The final part was to schedule a run through of the finished presentation. This was arguably the biggest challenge because as it was so close to the deadline date, we had limited time. Despite this, we had our practice session. It was successful and measurable by having met the brief requirements and producing a group project that we could be proud of.

We had our presentation and it went very well because we fulfilled our individual parts and met the assignment brief. Overall it was a good experience to work with these team members. Even though we didn’t collaborate together physically we still maintained contact virtually. This was a chance to develop project management skills that we will need in the future.
