The paintings explore the relationship between myself and my father. The meal captures the isolation within any relationship. Two adults now – childhood adulation replaced temporally with separation and difference. Isolation despite proximal nearness. The second portrait sympathetically observes his attempts to keep together a complex family during huge social upheaval. Adulation replaced by realistic respect and more honest understanding of responsibility.
