ECOSEW

An innovation into sustainable fashion and community appeal

FINAL CONCEPT

There has been a recent push for sustainable living and as it grows in significance, it is becoming more prominent in our daily lives. ECOSEW wants to make a large difference in a small community by focusing on on the impacts that the fashion and textile industry has on society and the environment around it. Our concept ultimately aims to minimise the fashion and textile landfill waste in order to target a portion of the damage that this industry regularly contributes. To do so, we intend to create a brand of utilitarian style high performance clothing that focuses on the importance of upcycling and mending of discarded garments and fabrics whilst additionally providing elements of style personality and uniqueness. Each garment will be produced along side a story of how they have been mended to allow the garments new owner insight into how they can prolong the life of their other clothing ultimately minimising the amount of textile going to waste. There will however, be some garments and textiles that will be by products and/or in too good of a condition to be repurposed at this moment in time. Therefore, Ecosew will offer a safe and warm space in Brighton for the population that may benefit off of this to gather together and be taught sewing, mending and upcycling techniques that can prevent the need for the consumption of fast fashion and increase current garments lives. This means that a community of people can benefit off of sustainable choices by enjoying an activity that allows a the creation of friendships, community and a step away from the vulnerabilities of everyday life and the costs of sustainable fashion. At Ecosew, we understand that there may not necessarily be time in everyone’s lives for such sessions and therefore, we will make all our classes avaliable on our digital platforms to allow people to be involved in their own time and wherever they may be.
