Snapshot- ‘Advancing Eviction Mediation: HousingShield and Full Spectrum EDR.’ By Alec Chapa and Chinwe Egbunike-Umegbolu

“I’m happy and proud to have published with the American Bar on my HousingShield program, in wonderful collaboration with my sharp and dedicated colleague Dr Chinwe Egbunike-Umegbolu, AFHEA!

In a time when real estate is being gobbled up in Texas and beyond by corporate giants, many from other states, some even from outside the U.S., the time for addressing eviction with early collaborative process is now.

If it weren’t enough that there’s tremendous value to be saved by finding hidden win-win opportunities, I consider it a protection for Americans (landlords, tenant, roommates and neighbors) for city and state officials to require these kinds of programs be put in place — especially when the owners are foreign entities who will not feel (much less see) the consequences of mass evictions and houselessness, and who may easily see this as a mere “business as usual” strategy.

It’s really very simple:

Early alerts to risks.
Early access to neutral, collaborative assistance.
Early resolution and issue prevention / mitigation.
Maximized shared interests that justify and reinforce these efforts.” – Alec Chapa
