Attending the Business Show at Excel in London
A group of first-year students studying Business Management with Entrepreneurship BSc(Hons) recently attended The Business Show at Excel in London, funded by the University of Brighton’s ‘Belong at Brighton’ Scheme, which covered the cost of their travel and lunch.
These kinds of trips are a great way to enhance our student’s learning experiences, offering them the chance to engage with real-world businesses, network with industry professionals, and gain insights into the latest trends and technologies shaping the business world.
Exposure to industry experts and entrepreneurs
One of the highlights of attending the Business Show was the chance to interact with industry experts, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders from diverse sectors.
Throughout the day, students attended a variety of seminars, workshops, and panel discussions, which were hosted by different inspirational leaders, all sharing their knowledge, experiences, and strategies for success in the competitive world of business.
Networking opportunities
Networking is one of the most valuable business skills, and this trip offered an excellent platform to practice this. Students were presented with lots of opportunities to interact with professionals from a variety of industries, including marketing, finance, technology, and retail.
As well as building their own confidence, the relationships they made, will provide them with essential connections and contacts needed for their own SMEs and startups.
Applying classroom knowledge to the real world
Attending the Business Show was a great way for our students to see firsthand how the concepts they are learning at university come to life in real-world settings.
Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of interactive workshops where they could apply what they have learnt so far and put this into practice, encouraging them to think critically and develop practical solutions, skills that are invaluable in their academic and professional careers.
For many of our students, this would have been their first time stepping outside of the classroom and fully immersing themselves in a ‘real world’ business environment. Whilst they found the size of the exhibition slightly overwhelming, the student’s feedback was positive and they came away feeling motivated and inspired.
