Poster presentation for final-year students

This week our third-year students studying Marketing Management BSc(Hons) and International Business Management BSc(Hons) took part in a poster presentation display for their final assignments before graduation.

The Retail Marketing and Distribution module looks at retail marketing and distribution through practical workshops with an emphasis on real retailer situations. Our students studied topics from historical development, current industry structure, trends and projected developments.

They were encouraged to balance theory and practice to produce a viable strategic report about the marketplace. One of the key facets of the module is that students not only explore and analyse the glamorous branding and retail image perspectives of the industry but also look at the societal and human impact of the industry. Therefore, the session topics are always linked to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Goals to give a broader picture of the industry to make the course more inclusive.

As part of the assignment, students were expected to develop a poster on ‘International Retail Trends’ where they had to present their research on the Antecedents, Implications and Future prospects of the Retail Trends. The students presented their work in Elm House Atrium. They had to work in small groups and present their research works on international retail trends. The students were presenting their work to anyone passing by, either student or staff and pitch their research work to the audience.

Students were assessed on their work, being marked on how they pitched, communicated and engaged their research findings to the attendees at their stands.

We received positive feedback from some of our students:

“The event allowed us students to showcase our skills and get some first-hand experience pitching our ideas. I feel the lessons we learnt whilst on this module will really increase our employability post-university.Luca Miles (BSc Marketing Management)

“We had a great afternoon on Wednesday, presenting our group’s poster on our chosen topic of sustainability within the fashion industry. By engaging with members of the public, as well as lecturers and students, we were able to deliver our findings and open up important conversations in an industry that is ever-growing and changing. Overall, it was an insightful afternoon shared with all.”
Will Reed (BSc Business Management with Marketing).

Course Leader Dr Hasan said “It was a fantastic event where students presented their research work on their choices of International Retail Trends. The students covered Some interesting insights and contemporary topics such as AI in Retail, Conscious Consumption, Ethical Sourcing and Blockchain Retailing. Overall a very impressive show.”

We want to wish all our students the best of luck in their next adventure and look forward to celebrating graduation with them all in August.
